February often brings to mind the many ways we express love, through family, friendship, and care for one another. But love also shows up in quieter, more powerful ways: standing beside families as they navigate challenging situations, offering guidance when the future feels uncertain, and ensuring that no one faces a legal crisis alone. Justice is an act of care.

Each winter brings real challenges for families already carrying heavy burdens. For many, this season can magnify instability such as financial stress, housing concerns, and the emotional strain of family conflict. Yet it is in these moments that courage and community support intersect.
At St. Andrew Legal Clinic, we see every day how providing access to legal help is one of the most meaningful ways to show care for our neighbors. Legal help can transform fear into stability and uncertainty into hope. When families have someone to stand beside them, to explain their rights, and to advocate for their safety and their children, it sends a powerful message: you are not alone. Your community cares about your safety and stability.
This is where St. Andrew Legal Clinic’s community-centered model makes a profound difference. Our work is only possible because of the collective commitment of volunteers, donors, partners, and supporters who believe that access to justice should not depend on income. Community support allows us to keep our doors open to families who might otherwise go without representation. It allows us to host clinics, respond quickly to urgent legal needs, and provide services on a sliding-scale basis so that help remains within reach. Every contribution, whether time, resources, or advocacy, directly strengthens our ability to stand beside families when they need it most.
Last year, with the support of this community, we made meaningful progress. Together, we expanded access to legal services to the most vulnerable in our community, strengthened and created new partnerships, and reached more families than ever before. Those successes are not just numbers, they represent safer homes, protected children, and individuals who were able to move forward with dignity.
Love and care are not only felt, but they are also practiced. They show up when a community commits to ensuring that families facing life’s most difficult moments are not left to navigate alone. When a community comes together to support families in crisis, it does more than resolve legal cases. It builds safer homes, stronger families, resilient communities, and a more just future for everyone.
Warmly,
Maxine Tuan
